Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 on my work laptop last night.  I installed it over my Windows XP installation.  I had planned on blowing my Ubuntu install away, but changed my mind.  The bad part is, installing Windows 7 blew away my grub boot loader.  I fixed grub by doing the following:

  1. Boot from a Ubuntu Live CD.
  2. Opened the Terminal.
  3. sudo grub
  4. grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
  5. grub> root (hd0,5)
  6. grub> setup (hd0)

**Be sure to use the number reported from the find command on step 4 when running step 5**

Grub fixed!!
